It's rechargeable, so no batteries, and you can apparently use a bluetooth connection to download more sounds, etc. It's basically just chirps now and then. Overall a great toy for bored pets. Basically ending the fun. Would be great to start a puppy or smaller dog on. It has multiple modes and is noise and proximity activated. Our dog was obsessed but sadly it was no match for her. 3 stars only because it didn’t last more than two days with our dog.
